Synopsis

Often scholars have to seek out and integrate the insights of other disciplines in order to understand the issues that interest them. They often face substantial barriers to such forms of information seeking. This work examines the nature of interdisciplinary work, focusing on the problems faced by women's studies scholars and the solutions used by them and the librarians who serve them. The book is based on extensive interviews with 33 women's studies faculty members of two major universities as well as the archived exchanges of the national listserv for women's studies. It provides a description of those information-seeking practices of both faculty and librarians that best serve the women's studies community, and analyzes them for scholars in this field.
