K-Gr 2-There is little doubt that the author entertained his daughter with his rambunctious, rhyming, toothy text; however, those outside the family may be less forgiving of the awkward verse and bad jokes. "These snappers are really/a sight for sore eyeses!/They could make us both famous,/and win lots of prizes!" Alice wonders what would happen if all of her teeth fell out, only to have one tooth fall out and be auctioned off to the tooth fairy for $2.75. The text is overly long and more than a bit didactic as dental hygiene and the joy of teeth chew up page after page. Fruisen's surrealistic, cartoon collages are a bit too frenetic for the loose-tooth set. Try Tom Birdseye's Airmail to the Moon (Holiday, 1988) instead.-Jody McCoy, The Bush School, Seattle, WA
