From School Library Journal:
Grade 1-3 - This book begins by introducing scientist Andrew Bryant, who studies marmots on Vancouver Island, but immediately veers away from that topic to provide snippets of information about other endangered animals, including pandas, chimpanzees, right whales, and whooping cranes. Williams then concludes with Bryant's discoveries about marmots and wishes him well in saving them. The text is accompanied by full-color photos, which are placed against a recurring background in a kind of collage. However, the visuals are not compelling enough to merit a recommendation in and of themselves. Although designed for older readers, each book in the "Scientists in the Field" series (Houghton) offers a cohesive introduction to the work of a researcher in a particular area. Don't settle for an unsatisfactory hodgepodge. - Kathy Piehl, Minnesota State University, Mankato
