From Maui to Manhattan's Central Park, Tina Vindum has revolutionized the way people around the world are getting in shape. Her breakthrough Outdoor Fitness program, rooted in back-to-basics conditioning, is the most advanced and unique method available today to achieve true BodyMind power and the highest degree of overall fitness, health, and well being. Tina Vindum's Outdoor Fitness finally makes this groundbreaking approach to exercise available for people everywhere, in one richly illustrated volume.

After introducing her program, Tina describes the three phases of Outdoor Fitness: learning the base moves; bringing these together with some of her signature moves as the intensity and duration of workouts increase; and fine-tuning workouts so that they become an integral part of one's life. Tina Vindum's Outdoor Fitness delivers what no other workout can: better, faster results on every level―physically, mentally, and emotionally.

My Story I created and honed my Outdoor Fitness Program over the past 15 years, taking it from a workout plan I used to help fellow professional skiers train more effectively to a certified and world-renowned program used to train hundreds of personal trainers, coaches, and athletes around the globe. As both a former Alpine skier and world champion mountain cyclist, I had been growing more and more frustrated with training in the static indoor environment of a gym. I not only felt my mind and body become numb as a result of the stale, oxygen-deprived atmosphere, but I also felt that I wasn¿t testing or challenging my body. My muscles were so used to repetitive exercises of the standard gym equipment, I had reached a plateau that was taking away from my performance. One day, I actually found myself staring out the window in the middle of yet another boring indoor workout - and I simply rebelled. I decided to go outside. I threw on extra layers of clothes and I began exploring the diverse terrain of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It was fall, training season for skiing. Leaves covered the ground, and the air was crisp and cold. Using the hills, the rocks, and the uneven ground, I literally created an alternative gym and a new way to exercise and train my body. Soon I was running slalom through the pine trees, learning to keep my balance on the uneven footing, and stopping from time to time to do strengthening and stretching exercises against the tree trunks and boulders. I knew instantly that this was an intuitive, brand new way to condition my body and improve my performance. I was utilizing the natural surroundings to guide my workouts, discovering that it didn't take a lot of equipment to achieve muscular strength, agility and power. After training in the outdoors, I began to notice other changes as well: a noticeable increase in my mental focus and sharpness, a sense of emotional strength, and greater well-being that infused me with a post-workout calm and centeredness I had never quite achieved before. But more than the physical results, I began to experience happiness and joy - it was if every cell in my body was overflowing with a new life force. I had reconnected with that place inside of me that loved being outside and near nature - that place where I was a "kid" again - a place that since that time, I cannot live without. Very quickly, this new approach to training showed up in my results. I was winning races, achieving new personal records, and reaching a new level of performance on the mountain, and in my life. Skiing non-stop runs down Heavenly's famed Gunbarrel run drew the attention of one of the most published Outdoor Sports photographers at the time, Larry Prosor (this photo shoot also led to others with world class photographers, Bruce Weber, Lori Adamski-Peek, Scott Markewitz, and John Kelly); I became a sponsored athlete for companies including Fila, Salomon, Oakley, Rollerblade, Roces, Fisher, Hind, and Scott. I even won a World Championship Medal in mountain biking. Soon everyone wanted to know what it was I'd been doing to get in such great shape, and I began sharing my new approach and techniques with fellow skiers, as well as other athletes. A few short years later, I had become a professional fitness trainer, and combined my certified expertise and my passion for the outdoors into a trademarked Outdoor Fitness program - the only outdoor exercise course to be accredited by the fitness field's two leading professional institutions, the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and the Aerobics and Fitness Association of American (AFAA). As a personal trainer recently said after attending one of my workshops, "I was so inspired and lifted in so many ways from the information and the experience . . . my brain was on fire as I drove back home. . . . I know without a doubt I too can fulfill and deliver to my community an incredible workout outdoors that gets results along with the awesome feeling of doing it outdoors."
