George Washington Carver: Agriculture Pioneer (Mission: Science)
Born into slavery, George Washington Carver worked hard, earned a university graduate degree, and eventually became a world-famous expert on plants. By experimenting with peanuts and other plants, he learned how to make many useful products from them. Carver taught students and farmers how to grow plants without damaging the soil. About the Author:
Robin S. Doak has been writing for children for more than 19 years. A former editor of Weekly Reader and U*S*Kids magazine, Doak has authored fun and educational materials for kids of all ages. She is a past winner of the Educational Press Association of America Distinguished Achievement Award. She lives with her family in Maine.
