About the Author:
Brenda Haugen started in the newspaper business and had a career as an award-winning journalist before finding her niche as an author. Since then, she has written more than 50 books and edited hundreds more, most of them for children. A graduate of the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, Brenda lives in North Dakota with her dog, Alice, who chose Brenda when she went to the Humane Society thinking she was there to adopt another dog.
From School Library Journal:
Grade 4-8–Report writers will appreciate the approachable writing style, sidebar Fast Facts, and high-quality photos and illustrations in these titles. Both books discuss the mens lives before they stepped onto the world stage, and how events in them affected their work. All of their triumphs and failures, lost elections, and health crises are explored and organized in a logical manner. Haugen includes excerpts from Roosevelts and Churchills speeches and writings, shaping a clearer view of these leaders. The slim volumes belie a wealth of information and should prove more than sufficient for reports or for general readers.–Carol Fazioli, Gwynedd-Mercy College, Gwynedd Valley, PA
