This hilarious book tells the story of Gordon and his babysitter. But this is not your average babysitter. Lily Jigg Popsicle is a new babysitter, and she has very unusual ideas about what babysitting involves. Gordon is happy to go to bed, turn the light off and go to sleep. Lily Jigg Popsicle, however, thinks going to bed is boring and wants to PLAY! Gordon takes a lot of persuading, but eventually joins in with her crazy games, and they have great fun, until they hear the parents coming home, when they have to clear up, get Gordon into bed, and Lily Jigg Popsicle into something resembling a responsible babysitter again!

About the Author:
Angela McAllister is the author of The Little Blue Rabbit and Barkus, Sly and the Golden Egg. She has written more than thirty books for young people and has illustrated several of her own books as well. She lives in Dorset, England.

PreSchool-Grade 2-Little Gordon always behaves when his parents go out on Tuesday evenings. But all this comes to a zany halt when the new baby-sitter, Lily Jigg-Popsicle, arrives. At first, she is alarmed that he won't jump on the bed with her, claiming: "I have to be good." When she suggests that they swap roles, Gordon agrees and sits downstairs knitting, mending socks, and drinking tea. Meanwhile, pandemonium abounds upstairs as Lily bounces around Gordon's room and calls for a glass of water. Eventually, he joins in the wackiness and sneaks outside with her, and they "climbed into the tree house and sang Mudmen songs under the cheesy moon." Fear not, when Gordon's parents get home, all is as it should be. Archbold's riotous illustrations are reminiscent of Quentin Blake's work, and the subversive mood set is one that Roald Dahl's fans will appreciate. A fun addition for larger collections.
