In addition to teaching undergraduate sport psychology for over 20 years, Weinberg has written extensively on topics related to sport psychology. He has published more than 125 journal articles and presented more than 200 scholarly papers at sport psychology conferences.
Dr. Weinberg has served as president of both the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity and the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology. He also has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology and The Sport Psychologist. Currently he is editor of the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology. He is a certified consultant and a member of the United States Olympic Committee Sport Psychology Registry.
Weinberg earned his PhD in sport psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1977. He has two children, Kira and Josh, and enjoys playing tennis and basketball and traveling.
Daniel Gould, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. He has taught sport psychology for more than 20 years. An active researcher, Gould was the founding coeditor of The Sport Psychologist and has published more than 100 articles on sport psychology.
Gould has been voted one of the top 10 sport psychology specialists in North America and was the first Australian sport psychology scholar. In 1994, he received the university’s coveted Alumni-Teaching Excellence Award, an all-campus teaching honor.
Gould is the former president of the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology (1988-89) and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Sport Psychology Academy (1986). In addition to teaching undergraduate sport psychology, he is extensively involved in coaching education from youth sports to Olympic competition. He also uses his psychology skills as a consultant for Olympic and world-class athletes, including working with U.S. athletes at the Nagano Olympic Games in 1998.
Gould lives in Greensboro, North Carolina, with his wife, Deb, and his two sons, Kevin and Brian. In his leisure time, he enjoys swimming, doing fitness activities, and spending time with his children.
