After habitat loss, the impact of naturalized exotics is the single most important cause of extinction in native species throughout the world. In this book, updated from the first edition in 1987, Christopher Lever describes when, where, how and by whom the world's naturalized birds were introduced to places outside their natural range, and discusses the economic and ecological impacts each has had in its naturalized regions.

"...a useful scientific reference and an interesting book for birders to delve into" Birdwatch (May 2006) "...It is a valuable reference and an eye-opening read." Martin Collinson British Birds (June 2006) "...it can fairly claim to be the last word on the subject for some time to come." John Davies Scottish Bird News (June 2006) "The author has been rigorous in compiling and processing data drawn from a wide variety of sources...many of which are primary sources difficult to obtain...
