About the Author:

Mr. Thomas Garry, OP, is a member of the Lay Fraternities of St. Dominic, Caldwell University chapter, and a parishioner of St. Catharine Roman Catholic Church in Glen Rock, NJ. He and his wife, Sandy, have three children, Meghan, Brendan, and Erin. Tom has served in his parish as a lector, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Confirmation class teacher, basketball coach, and homeless ministry volunteer. He also has been active in pro-life and anti-poverty efforts. A medical writer by profession, Tom also has written for a number of Catholic publications, including Columbia, Our Sunday Visitor, and the Archdiocese of Newark’s newspaper, The Catholic Advocate. He has a bachelor’s degree in international relations and a master’s degree in political science from American Military University, and a master’s degree in economics from the University of London. Through Lent with John’s People is an outgrowth of his (quite imperfect) practice of lectio divina, the ancient Catholic tradition of prayerful contemplation of Scripture cherished by St. Dominic and all who seek to follow him in the Dominican family he established more than 800 years ago.
