-- Table of Poems from Poem Finder®
From School Library Journal:
Grade 5 Up This anthology of poems about friendship includes pieces that represent a variety of cultures, periods, and styles. A selection from the Chinese Mother Goose and ``Friendship'' from the Aztecs are here; also included are autograph verses, blank verse from a high-school student, and selections from better and lesser-known poets, including Carl Sandburg, Gwendolyn Brooks, John Ciardi, Calvin O'John, Langston Hughes, Shel Silverstein, Judith W. Steinbergh. In all, over 50 poets are represented. Poems are categorized into nine sections to reflect diverse perspectives on the subject, such as loneliness, best friends, missing a friend, and falling out of friendship. These selections are by no means old standards. A table of contents lists poems by section; the poems are listed again at the actual beginning of each section. The book is thoroughly indexed by title, first line, author, and translator; the author index also notes nationality and dates of poets. A one-of-a-kind anthology and a highly desireable, if not absolutely necessary, addition to the poetry shelf.Linda Wicher, Lincolnwood Public Library, Ill.
