From School Library Journal:
Grade 1-3-- Griffith tells three short stories all starring feisty Emily, who meets some typical fairy-tale characters who refuse to behave in the accepted fairy tale fashion. In the first story, Emily kisses a frog and turns him into a handsome prince. When the furious prince extols the many pleasures of being a frog, poor Emily winds up kissing over a dozen frogs trying to find a princess who will kiss the prince and return both to the joys of catching bugs. She has the same luck with an elf who will grant her only one wish, and a lobsterlike creature who insists on being called a mermaid. All three stories feature lively, natural-sounding dialogue ("Pucker up," says the princess) that is fun to read aloud or alone. As in Georgia Music (1986) and Grandaddy's Place (1987, both Greenwillow), Griffith doesn't waste a word, and she gives her readers fast-moving stories with satisfying endings. Lamb's small, watercolor sketches interspersed with the print echo the storyline and capture Emily's frustrations. Kids are sure to appreciate the small details such as the orange-haired princess' pink stockings and green shoe boots. Emily's adventures are a welcome addition for collections that need materials for newly independent readers. --Elizabeth Huntoon, Chicago Public Library

From Publishers Weekly:
In a collection of three stories, Griffith confronts a precocious 20th-century child with classic folkloric elements (such as being granted three wishes). In "Emily and the Enchanted Frog," Emily kisses a frog which, as should all enchanted frogs, turns into a handsome prince. But it was the frog that was under a spell, not the prince; it must now remain a prince until the spell is broken. To Emily's chagrin, only she can help change the frog back, and it's not a pleasant task. The second and third story repeat the quirky humor, resulting in a trio of original, amusing tales. Lamb's boldly colored drawings--modernized 19th-century fairy-tale illustrations--enhance the mood of the text. Ages 6-up.
