Yet the business of filmmaking goes on, with the project Blue Moon providing a vehicle for McClintock's level-headed assistant, Lara Miller, to earn a position of power whilst continuing her quest for the right guy. Although the Malibu locale seems more like a seaside pit stop with action largely elsewhere, the reward for enduring predictable set-pieces is enough eyebrow-raising scenes to satisfy the most jaded voyeur.

An entertaining romp through the by-now familiar but still fun movie world of Southern California. Newcomer Lara Miller quickly learns the Hollywood ropes as she leaps the ranks at MCM Studios. B.J. McClintock, MCM's president, needs help. His teenage mistress has unexpectedly flown in from Aspen; his plastic surgeon partner in constructing (literally) stars is on the edge of a breakdown; and his latest blockbuster film is running overbudget as its two stars feud. Lara is simultaneously amazed and amused by the glamorous profligacy of the people around her. The authors, too, appear to have had lots of fun creating this novel. Underneath the usual scenarios of lust, love, and ambition, they promote a refreshing feeling of solidarity among Hollywood women, whether they be wives, lovers, actresses, or producers. An excellent choice for public libraries.
