Kuralt's last television and book project was a series of short television spots called "An American Moment with Charles Kuralt". They were syndicated to news stations around the country, beginning in January of 1997 and running through August of the same year. In his thirty-seven years with CBS News, Charles Kuralt won many honors, including thirteen Emmy Awards and three Peabody Awards for his work both "on the road" and on Sunday Morning. He was the author of six previous books, including the bestselling On the Road with Charles Kuralt, A Life on the Road, and Charles Kuralt's America. He died on Independence Day, 1997.
