But he slices off more than that. He willingly takes on the issues that surround women's golf as well--from the sexual and sociological to the financial and maternal. Like the players that it follows--Laura Davies, Dottie Pepper, Nancy Lopez, and Annika Sörenstam, among them--Tee Times hits most of the fairways and greens it targets; its aim is true, and its appreciation for the game and the spirit, perseverance, and drive of the women who play it is unmistakable.

The approach is similar: use the week-to-week tournaments on the Ladies' Tour as a launching pad for reflections on the game and its participants. Unlike Feinstein, Burnett has a juicy tabloid issue on his plate: lesbians in the LPGA. On this topic and most others, Burnett takes a strictly middle-of-the-road position, criticizing homophobic attacks on female golfers but seeming to endorse the "don't ask, don't tell" policy of the LPGA toward its gay players. Burnett lacks Feinstein's style and depth, too often resorting to PR prose ("When she's not playing, Spaulding likes to read and go to the movies"), but the insider angle will still grab golf fans, male and female.
