Grade 8 Up MacClintock's book is extremely well researched and detailed, perhaps to a fault. The inclusion of so many details presented in scientific terminology require concentrated reading effort. Attempts to help with the explanation of scientific terms include a glossary and brief definitions in parentheses next to the term. Nevertheless, many terms go undefined or are not explained simply enough. The book describes the physical characteristics, habitat, behavior, and life cycle of the Red Panda. In addition, it includes accounts by early naturalists on the observation of Red Pandas in their natural habitat and in zoos. Comprehensive information on present-day efforts to study and preserve the species is given. Similar in format to MacClintock's other nature titles, this book carefully matches solid scientific information with numerous black-and-white photographs, sketches, and diagrams.
