This text places money, power and space at the centre of the issues surrounding the restructuring of the global economy. Seventeen geographers, economists, political scientists and sociologists drawn from all over the world present new work on the production and consumption of money. The central theme of the book is that modern systems of money have a crucial spatial dimension: money is creating new geographies of power and influence, and these in turn are generating new systems of money. Following an introductory overview by the editors, the book is divided into three parts concerned with: the geo-politics of money; different national geographies of money; and the culture and politics of money and markets. Case studies and examples range from Nigeria to Asia, and from Wall Street to the City of London. Money has been neglected in the social sciences: this book introduces a series of new concepts and powerful analyses of key importance in understanding the world of money and the dynamics of modern society.

Review:
"This edited collection is a very welcome addition to the growing literature on the international political economy (IPE) of money and finance ... an innovative and important collection which does much to push forward the study of the international political economy of money and finance." Growth and Change

"Money, Space and Power is an edited collection which provides a variegated insight into the geography of financial production. Despite any particular fault, it does make an intelligent contribution to our understanding of the complexities of this production. By coming from Old and New Worlds, it promotes a polemic through which different types of approaches and experiences can be communicated. Despite the bias of human geography, its multi-disciplinary approach will appeal to readers of Urban Studies and a wider audience to whom it is readily recommended." Urban Studies
