Lydia, a born again Christian, has lost her husband due to his faith. Raising her only child, Agopolis, Lydia strives to teach him right from wrong. But, Marcus, a playful, playboy, tax-collector, is always hounding her since losing his wife to an illness. Lydia resists Marcus, who reads every writing he can to try and figure out why his wife had to die. He doesn't believe in any God. That is, until his son becomes deathly ill. The Roman gods and doctors can't help, so he turns to Lydia's God, Jesus. After a miracle healing, Marcus puts his trust in Jesus. Then, the persecution starts. It has a happy ending, but the perils they go through are huge. The story contains familiar hymns sung by many of the characters. It has comedic elements, but is a drama set around 325 A.D.

About the Author:

James Clevenger graduated from Missouri Western State University with a Degree in Theatre in 1988. He currently resides in St. Joseph, Missouri with his oldest daughter who is in college. Not being the type to fly, on a whim, to New York or Los Angeles, he decided to begin writing. Since that time he has been published online and in print with short stories and poems. He also write songs. This particular play, he wrote after reading about the persecution of the Christian Church around 400 AD. That research, coupled with his faith, produced “A Persecution Story.” He says, “Although this play certainly doesn’t hide the truth of the persecution of the church, it is tamer than some real stories of persecution I found during my research.”
