Synopsis

The Rev. Tom Carroll, as Senior Pastor of The Lakeway Church, Lakeway (Austin), Texas, invited the Rev. Dr. James L. Stoner, a member of the congregation, to write a brief meditation every week to be printed on the front cover of the weekly Sunday bulletins. This was to encourage worshippers as they entered their pews to sit, read and meditate until the worship service began. Dr. Stoner, along with his wife Janice, accepted the invitation and wrote weekly meditations from 1996 to 2003. It was suggested that these meditations be printed in book form for use by families for devotions, women's and men's study and prayer groups, as devotionals to precede church meetings, youth group worship, etc. Dr. Stoner published the first book, Down-to-Earth Meditations That Give You a Lift, in 1999. This second book was begun before Dr. Stoner's death in 2007, and was finished by his wife, Janice, and friends of the family. The book is a compilation of short, one-page discourses on a variety of subjects, designed to calm your spirit and help you reflect on bringing your life into accord with God's plan for you.
