From School Library Journal:
Grade 5-6-- This story is truly a trip through sixth grade. Collette is excited about her second semester because she is back at Sacred Heart School with her best friends, Sarah and Marsha, and gorgeous Mr. Kurtlander as her teacher. To top it off, eighth-grader Sherri Anders suddenly wants to be her friend. Collette is on top of the world--temporarily. Marsha becomes jealous of her sudden popularity, and she and Sarah turn against Collette, leaving her torn between her old friends and her new one. All of the characters may be found in any sixth grade classroom. The students live in the moment, never looking ahead or back, and every event is a crisis. The dialogue is realistic, and the humor is the typical slapstick that preadolescents find hilarious in others but never see in their own actions. The adults, except for the idolized Mr. K, play practically no roles in the children's lives. This is also typical of the way sixth-graders view adults. The main flaw is the length of time it takes Collette to realize that Sherri is using her because of her family's friendship with the object of her affections, Mr. Kurtlander. Readers will catch on long before she does, but it won't spoil their enjoyment of the story. --Nancy P. Reeder, Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, Columbia, SC
