Book Description Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. First Edition, First Thus. Text/BRAND NEW. Green linen boards/Fine. DJ/NF w/trace wear. Author signed on title page. Milford Road leads to The Homer Tunnel road tunnel in the Fiordland region of the South Island, New Zealand. Construction took over 20 years to complete. Began in 1935, the tunnel and the associated Milford Road were built by relief workers during the Depression in the mountainous region where direct sunlight was absent for near half year, avalanches occur, and water seeped through rock factures. Progress, compounded by World War II, was slow and difficult. Author Harold Anderson was a Public Works Department paymaster whose duties took him to and from Invercargill to the construction site. His intimate account is illustrated with archival photos. Fine copy. Signed by Author(s). Seller Inventory # 008546
