6-10-- For ten years, Jones has coached the San Francisco Special Olympics basketball team. B-Ball is his very personal, funny, and often moving account of the ups and downs of his experience and of the characters who comprised the team. Jones taught his players basketball basics and instilled in them the value of teamwork--and then let them go. Each player had to cope with severe mental and/or physical disabilities and broken or nonexistent families. The team didn't win every game in score (although they won many), but--as the subtitle says--they never lost a game, mainly because of Jones's caring patience and persistence. Readers will be entertained and inspired by the on- and off-court heroics of this most unusual team. --Jack Forman, Mesa College Library, San Diego
