From School Library Journal:
ea. vol: 32p. diags. index. (Do You Know? Series). 1987. PLB $9.90. Grade 5-8 The subjects considered here are displayed in broad outlines which provide the basic facts and serve as simple introductions for beginners. Because of the number of illustrations, the book appears to be for a younger audience than the reading level of the text indicates. The full-color illustrations are all drawings, primarily picturing aspects of the texts in dramatic form but with occasional diagrams. About Stars and Planets covers galaxies and the expanding universe, stars, stellar evolution, the sun and planets, the earth and moon, comets, meteors, and exploring the sky (offering little practical advice on this last). Flight takes a historical approach, following the development of all forms of flying craftfrom balloons and gliders to zeppelins and airplanes, from famous firsts to jets and passenger service, from helicopters to jump jets and the space shuttle. Some information on the principles of flight and wing design is included. The format makes both titles appealing, although it works best in Flight because of the narrower scope and graphics of the various flying machines. Dennis Ford, Canandaigua Junior Academy, N.Y.
