From School Library Journal:
Grade 2-4-- An unusual and intriguing little book, not for everyone, but made to order for lap and read-aloud sessions with the right listener. The brief bedtime stories reveal the true nature of Sevensleepers, who are compulsive about their favorite number. Dinner may consist of seven potatoes, seven fishsticks, and seven peas. They are fond of the seven days of the week, a bit out of patience with 12 months (too many), and the number of days in a year is, of course, simply beyond all limits. A good deal of information about the nature of the Sevensleeper's family may be gleaned along the way, and a very nice group they are. Bhend's ink illustrations are both endlessly inventive and fascinating. Multiples of seven abound, small animals hide in most of the pictures, woodland creatures peep out of trees. Close inspection of a maze made up of walnuts and hazelnuts reveals that each walnut has a face and, obviously, a personality. Franceschelli's translation is beautiful. --Tatiana Castleton, Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library, CA
