Book Description:
This stunningly beautiful book is the first of its kind. It opens the herbarium to the public in its most flattering light, through the lens of Robyn Stacey's camera, one of Australia's most treasured photographers. The book tells stories about the nature of collecting, those who collected, what and when, and the scientific background to each of the specimens. In doing so, Robyn Stacey together with essayist, Ashley Hay, are able to throw open the closed doors of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney herbaria, and the history of Australia's flora.
About the Author:
Ashley Hay has written two books of narrative non-fiction, The Secret: The Strange Marriage of Lord Byron and Annabella Milbanke (Duffy and Snellgrove, 2000), and Gum: The Story of Eucalypts and Their Champions (Duffy and Snellgrove, 2002). She lives in Sydney and is currently assistant editor of The Bulletin.
