Emile Gaboriau (Saujon 1832 Paris 1873) fut hussard en Afrique, chef d'ecurie et s'engagea dans la cavalerie avant de s installer a Paris. Il y devient le secretaire de Paul Feval qui lui fait decouvrir le journalisme. Il publie son premier roman, "L Affaire Lerouge", en 1866. Le succes est tel qu il est engage comme feuilletoniste au "Petit Journal".
