From School Library Journal:
Grade 7-9 When Sandrine Lang is chosen to be Chief Justice at a mock trial in her senior Law and Democracy class, she's sure that there's been a mistake. She's too shy, blushes too easily and avoids emotional conflict. However, she realizes the possibilities of the situation when both the "defense attorney," heartthrob Ted Steele, and the "prosecuting attorney," enigmatic Reed Hobart, begin to battle for her attention. She's pretty sure that Ted is just using her, but she enjoys the attention anyway. Best friend, Jan, claims that Reed has always been crazy about her, but if so, why does he mock her at every opportunity? This romance adheres to all the conventions, but it is curiously flat in characterization, dialogue and humor. The problem of Sandrine's reluctance to accept a new stepmother seems tacked on, and the conflict generated by the court decision is superficial and easily resolved. The pro forma ending, in which Ted discards Sandrine and Reed confesses his love for her, will not redeem this story for any but the most die-hard fans of the genre. Eleanor K.
