When IBM wants to introduce a new product to the market, they show a video to their sales force demonstrating it in action. When WordStock wanted more bookstores to install their inventory system, they sent a video to their display at the American Booksellers Association meeting. Who stars in these videos? There is a whole world of employment for actors that many don't know about, or to whom it's still a mystery: the world of Industrials. Bill Steele has worked in hundreds of corporate videos; he knows how they work, and he knows how to get work in them. Among the features of this informative, engaging, and valuable book:

  • Making the "Business" transition
  • Video Production essentials for actors
  • Industrial headshots and resumes
  • Looking for work in industrials.

About the Author:
William Paul Steele is a working actor who has appeared in hundreds of industrial films and videos. His acting experience ranges from summer stock to weather announcing, talk shows to commercials. In addition to being on the theatre faculty at the University of Southern Maine, Bill is a drama critic for the Portland (Maine) Press Herald, a theatre columnist for the Maine Sunday Telegram, and co-host of the Maine Public Broadcasting TV show Power and Steele on Theater. He lives with his wife, Eleanor, in Falmouth, Maine.
From Booklist:
Industrials, also known as corporate videos, provide the second-largest volume of work available for actors today. These are informational films and videos made by corporations, government agencies, educational institutions, and hospitals for noncommercial broadcast. Steele defines the scope of the field, giving specifics on resume writing, wardrobe, and creating a winning image. He discusses self-promotion and job search techniques. His tips on essential professional behavior in a corporate atmosphere and on working well with nonactorstypically, nonprofessional, in-house talentare especially helpful. Steele is also the author of Stay Home and Star: A Step-by-Step Guide to Starting Your Regional Acting Career (1992). A great how-to for the novice corporate star. Denise Perry Donavin
