Künstlerisch ist das Bedeutsame an dieser Einheit des Lebens, daß sieviel intimer ist als die Einheit der bis dahin überwiegenden Kunstformen. Denn sie besteht darin, daß jedes Stück Wirklichkeit mit jedem anderen fortlaufend zusammenhängt, jedes von jedem unzertrennbar. Während das Wesen der älteren Formen künstlerischer Komposition Teilung ist, allerdings um die Teile dann künstlich durch Proportion, Harmonie, Rhythmus zusammenzufügen, deutet die Einheit des Lebens also bin auf die Möglichkeit einer Einheit neuer Art in der Kunst: als Gegenstück des Lebens auf den fortlaufenden, lückenlos zu verfolgenden Zusammenhang aller einzelnen Elemente im Kunstwerk, so daß also statt mehr oder weniger geordneter Gruppen eine einzige unendliche Melodie herauskommt.
