reSchool-Grade 1--Through plenty of rhyme, this book offers a playful look at a variety of types of automobiles and the "games" they engage in. "Cars play leapfrog,/Cars go wading,/Cars play hide-and-seek,/And go ice-skating." Their honking and beeping is described as their way of singing, and their idea of eating snacks is to hook up to the gas pump. It all sounds silly, and it is-silly fun for kids. In the end, cars get tired and go to sleep. The stylized, acrylic illustrations closely resemble a child's vivid imagination, each car with a different shape, color, or combination of colors, along with expressions of individuality that mirror the drawings of a child. The text is kept to a minimum-one line per page in a good-sized type. This is definitely a one-on-one sharing book, or an easy choice for newly independent readers.
