Grade 3-6 Patent begins this brief discus sionof wheat by noting some of the uses of this most important food. The first chapter discusses the history of wheat, the three kinds, and their physical properties. Chapter two describes the growing of wheat in various parts of the country and explains the differences between spring and winter wheat. Chapters three and four deal with what happens to the wheat after it is harvestedstorage, milling, and bak ing. The text is liberally illustrated with color and black-and-white photos. The captions add to the text's content. Some of the close-up photos of the growing wheat plants are misleading, as there are no points of reference to help determine the actual size of the plants pictured. The material is accurate and is presented in an adequate manner, but few of the photos were taken in major wheat producing areas of the country. The lack of people in any of the photos makes them appear life less and is unfortunate, particularly since people are a very important part of wheat production. Even with these minor short comings, this is still by far the best title available on this subject. Its attractive cover will help keep it from taking root on the shelf.
