From Library Journal:
English journalist Humphries has produced a breezy yet complete biography of one of popular music's most innovative songwriter/performers. Tempering a fan's reverential treatment with the realism of a professional writer, he examines Simon's legacy as part of the legendary folk duo of Simon and Garfunkel in the 1960s and as a solo artist since the 1970s. Humphries uses material culled from numerous secondary sources to put into perspective the many aspects of Simon's life. Particularly well researched are his early years on the European folk music circuit and the more recent controversy surrounding his Graceland album (recorded in South Africa). Although Humphries's style and leftist politics can be a bit overbearing, he effectively captures his subject as a performer and a human being.
