From School Library Journal:
Grade 7-10?An engaging collection of back-to-school love stories. The opener, Alane Ferguson's "The Bridge," portrays with insight and humor a group of teens in a Life Studies class who are required to participate in mock marriages. Some unlikely alliances result as steady couples are assigned to unchosen mates. Katherine Applegate's "Destination Unknown" is a sweet tale of two lonely misfits, heartsick Mae and introverted Ethan, who unexpectedly find each other in the anonymity of the mall. In Lee Wardlaw's "Shadow Girl," Zack is pining for a lost love when he becomes infatuated with the dreamy shadow of a new girl seen behind a window shade next door. This is the weakest story, as it waxes somewhat too poetic and ethereal to be plausible. The final selection, Ellen Conford's "A Labor Day Carol," is a spoof of Dickens's Christmas Carol. The ghosts of school days past, present, and future all pay visits to Carole on Labor Day night, taking her on phantasmagoric rides and revealing scenes that help her face the start of another academic year. Altogether, this is a fine, light anthology that should appeal to teens.?Susan W. Hunter, Riverside Middle School, Springfield, VT

From Booklist:
Gr. 7^-9. Four very chaste, yet charming short stories by four popular YA "romance" authors will draw a variety of teenage girls to your paperback shelves. "The Bridge" by Alane Ferguson revolves around the conflict between best friends over one boy. "Destination Unknown" by Katherine Applegate focuses on a teenage runaway and her rescuer. Lee Wardlaw gives the old girl-next-door theme a new twist, and Ellen Conford adapts Dickens' Christmas Carol to a teen's unhappy reaction to being jilted. These four short stories, all centered on the beginning of school, will be just the fluffy, feel-good romances early teens crave. Frances Bradburn
