The 22 stories relate April Fools' jokes, regional tales, traditional stories, puzzles and more. A few will be familiar, yet even those that are fresh are marred by a lackluster style. Although copious notes and sources are included, rarely do they convey a sense of when these pranks took place. The extensive bibliography lists adult titles almost exclusively, the only exceptions being one out-of-print title and four Schwartz titles. The elegant design of this slim bookopen and clean looking with lots of white space and peppered with attractive pen-and-ink drawingsis in opposition to the more low-brow content.
