About the Author:

Carla Damron is a fiction writer and clinical social worker. She is the author of the Caleb Knowles mystery novels Keeping Silent, Spider Blue, and Death in Zooville in which she explores addiction, homelessness, and other social issues. Her short stories have appeared in Fall Lines, Six Minute Fiction, Melusine, In Posse Review, and other journals. Named the 2014 South Carolina Social Worker of the Year, Damron holds an M.F.A. in creative writing from Queens University and a master's degree in
social work from the University of South Carolina.

Social worker/therapist Caleb Knowles attempts to help his deaf brother Sam cope with the inexplicable murder of his fianc?e. The police in Westville, SC, as well as the dead woman's parents, however, blame Sam for her death. In order to subvert police fixation on his brother, Caleb begins his own investigation, discovering that one of his clients has a connection with the murdered woman. Fortuitously, his client sessions, which make up a substantial portion of the narrative, produce important clues that lead to the real murderer. An attractive small-town Southern setting, believable characters, and the search for motive override the sometimes strained prose: for larger and regional collections.
