From Publishers Weekly:
Choosing verisimilitude over excitement, this offering from a former high-ranking Scotland Yard offical will please procedural fans more than it will espionage aficionados. Detective Chief Superintendent Gaffney of Special Branch leads a sting operation to find a leak in British counterintelligence. The same team of MI5 agents has lost two KGB operatives in quick succession. Shortly after losing a third, the team's leader apparently commits suicide. Gaffney continues his probe, questioning various MI5 officers and families, none very nice and some rather nasty. After many starts, stops and false leads, Gaffney unravels an ingenious long-term KGB sleeper operation. Ison's characterizations aren't very deep, but the novel has a plausible ring not unlike the true-life spy stories the British do so well.

From Library Journal:
Two highly sensitive missions involving Eastern bloc "Illegals" have gone awry, raising suspicions that Britain's MI5 has a mole. The Home Secretary orders Special Branch of Scotland Yard to investigate. John Gaffney of SB deftly handles the matter by engineering a bogus operation that successfully ferrets out the spies. Ison has taken the weary idea of spy infiltration and fashioned a sad story of deceit and regret that has thoughtful characterization, attention to detail, and a suspenseful plot. The author's first U.S. publication, this is highly recommended.

Satisfaction Guaranteed. When the Director-General of MI5 realizes there is a traitor on his staff he is forced to call upon Special Branch to conduct the search. And, away from the arduous task of heading selection boards for new officers, Detective Chief Superintendent John Gaffney, who first appeared in The Cold Light of Dawn, is put in charge of the operation. Picking a small, but select, team, Gaffney sets an elaborate trap- one to catch those who normally do the catching. As the net closes in the suspects are narrowed down until one commits suicide. Was it an admission of guilt, or was it actually murder? Using this uncertainty Gaffney and his team pursue their quarry, working their way through the facts, interviewing and re-interviewing, acquiring and discarding more evidence until the truth is apparent.
