From School Library Journal:
Grade 7-12-- An excellent guide to a variety of positions in television. Writing, technical, news, performance, and production careers are covered in lively, interesting biographies of successful figures. Each section concludes with advice on how to prepare for and seek out a job in a particular arena, stressing equally hands-on experience and college or other educational training. Black-and-white photos add to the appeal. Terminology within specific areas is highlighted in "lingo" columns; these definitions are helpful, although their location is a bit annoying. Those readers seeking further information will find addresses for production companies and networks and advice on contacting them. There is also a list of books and other publications. This does not replace the informative yet dry Opportunities in Television and Video Careers (VGM, 1988) by Shonan F. R. Noronha but can supplement it. Practical tips, an upbeat style, and relevant subject matter make it an outstanding resource. --Diane P. Tuccillo, Mesa Public Library, AZ

From Kirkus Reviews:
Nineteen professionals in the TV industry (sales manager, set designer, anchor person, technical/lighting director, writer, program-development executive, etc.) describe their careers and daily activities. In the new ``You Can Do It!'' series, the book is crammed with quotes, practical tips on getting started, and sources of career information. It also lists cable and broadcast networks and production companies, and gives information on periodicals and books of interest. Ardent TV fans will appreciate the many b&w photos of these successful pros and the blow-by-blow descriptions of their careers. The text is a bit breathless, and the format is busy with photos and a running side panel, called ``lingo,'' which explains technical and special terms like ``robotic camera,'' ``pixel,'' ``cel,'' ``sweetening,'' ``ISO,'' and ``bump page.'' Good, current career information for the serious teen. (Nonfiction. 12+) -- Copyright ©1991, Kirkus Associates, LP. All rights reserved.
