From Library Journal:
This superior historical romance rings true all the way, thanks to convincing characters and plot, plus loads of information about life in the Arizona Territory circa 1880. (The author, winner of a Western Writers Association Golden Spur Award, lives in Arizona herself.) After the death of their parents, 16-year-old Katie McLeod shepherds her younger siblings, livestock, and an Irish harp from Texas to Arizona. She is determined to have a ranch and make a living, come hell or high water. With grit, gumption, and the help of the people of Galyesville, a rough mining town led by Radnor, an ex-rustler, the little family succeeds in spite of a predatory neighbor and raiding Apaches. The suspense and action are not retarded by the striking descriptions of scenery, flora, and fauna.
