Review:

"This guide helps writers render a thesis or grant application that stands out from the competition."—Science

"This little book is a concise guide to the process of writing proposals, with emphasis on styles for agencies like NSF, EPA, USDA, and USGS. . . . The book is a great resource for students writing their first thesis proposal and for practicing professionals at all levels of experience."—Fisheries, A Bulletin of the American Fisheries Society

"This inexpensive book could prove to be your best investment of the year. It is a step-by-step guide to the preparation of a high-quality research proposal in the natural sciences."—BioScience

"A practical guide . . . the authors provide a useful model that can be adapted and tailored to fit each unique situation. . . . Timely issues such as interdisciplinary research, ethical concerns, and intellectual property rights are included. A bibliography and a listing of WebSite addresses for funding agencies add to the usefulness of this very readable title. Recommended for academic, public and special libraries."—E-Streams

"An exceptional handbook for first time authors, or as a text for a graduate level course in proposal preparation. . . . This exceptionally useful and affordable handbook will serve as a refresher to seasoned writers and as a guide and source of encouragement for first-time authors."—C.L. Sagers, Ecology

"[This book], written by scientists with practical knowledge of grant writing, is a good primer for writers with little experience in this area. For instructors teaching courses that include proposals, it is a good resource. The chapters have the flavor of class lectures, and exercises at the end of each might be valuable for class work. . . . Readability and brevity make the book a good starting place for one interested in developing skills in grantsmanship."—Martha Davis, Journal of Natural Resources & Life Science

"The volume can be used as a text in class, a guide for a lab support group, or a self-help manual for an individual investigator."—Science, Books, & Films
