The life of Stuart Blanch (1918-1994) may be seen as an illustration of English Christianity during the turbulent post-WWI years of the twentieth century. This vividly told story describes the idyll of his early years on a Gloucestershire farm which ended in tragedy; his coming to faith during service in the RAF in India; the post-war years of ministry, teaching, writing, travelling and speaking, as vice-principal of Wycliffe Hall, Oxford (1957-60), warden of Rochester Theological College (1960-66), Bishop of Liverpool (1966-75) and Archbishop of York (1975-83).
