Robert Webber, popular speaker and author of the best-selling Evangelical on the Canterbury Trail, introduces a contemporary adaptation of the Prymer -- the prayer book of the Medieval era. Burning with the passion characteristic of the fifteenth-century church in England, this collection of prayers and readings invite readers to join with the thousands of committed Christians who uttered these daily prayers during this tumultuous time in history.

From the Author:
"I became interested in reading pre-Reformation Spirituality because it has many similarities to my field of teaching in the history of theology. Some time ago I became interested in liturgy because I discovered it was a way of handing down the Christian Narrative from which our theology derives. I've since discovered the same about spirituality. Spirituality is reflection and identification with Christ. The Prymer brings liturgy and spirituality together in a unique way. The prayers focus on God's saving events in time so that our entire day is lifted into the cycle of creation, incarnation, re-creation. In this way the Prymer prayers lead us into a sanctification of time that results in a new way of "seeing" all of life."
From the Inside Flap:
Developed over a period of four hundred years, The Prymer functioned as the primary source for lay spirituality in the Middle Ages. Nearly all those who could read had their own personal copy, often beautifully decorated and bound.

Also known as the Little Book of Hours, The Prymer orders personal and communal spirituality around the daily office of morning and evening prayers; throughout the day it focuses on the hours of Christ's passion and death. The Prymer also includes prayers developed in the medieval era to deal with death and the myriad of life's hardships.
