See who gets what, when, and how in American politics
Politics in America examines the core foundations, institutions, behaviors, and policies of the American political system. The text views politics as a competition for resources. It encourages students to personally evaluate government’s impact by raising controversial issues, dissecting the conflicts behind them, and asking what it means for democracy. Often feisty and always stimulating, Politics in America engages students in a frank exploration of political power and encourages them to be involved in public affairs.

Thomas R. Dye, Emeritus McKenzie Professor of Government at Florida State University, regularly taught large introductory classes in American politics and has served as president of the Southern Political Science Association, president of the Policy Studies Organization, and secretary of the American Political Science Association. He has taught at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Wisconsin, and the University of Georgia, and served as a visiting scholar at Bar-Ilan University, Israel; the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.; and elsewhere.
Ronald Keith Gaddie is Professor of Political Science at the University of Oklahoma, where he regularly teaches the American Federal Government course. He is former president of the Southwestern Political Science Association; he has also been retained by corporations, trade associations, state and local governments and by plaintiffs and defendants in election law and voting rights litigation. Keith is also an award-winning radio broadcaster at NPR radio station KGOU (Norman, OK).
“Politics in America is unbiased in its approach yet is capable of provoking discussion as it brings out both sides of student opinion.”–Joseph Mancos, Lenoir-Rhyne University
“Dye and Gaddie address my need for in-depth coverage of the subject while bending over backward to be user-friendly. Their use of chapter summaries and key words are most helpful to students unfamiliar with, and sometimes disinterested in, the topic.”–Mary Carr, Arapahoe Community College
“A visually appealing, well-written introductory text that emphasizes the who, what, and how of politics.”–Will Miller, Southeast Missouri State University
