Grade 2-5?This collection of 26 previously published short stories will have most appeal as a gift book. Some selections, such as Sid Fleischman's "McBroom and the Big Wind" and Florence Parry Heide's "The Shrinking of Treehorn," are readily available in most libraries in their original editions. A few more subtle tales that have to do with the nature of story will be enjoyed most by adults or by students of fractured fairy tales?Margaret Mahy's "A Lion in the Meadow" and Mary Norton's "Paul's Tale" are the best in this category. Other well-known contemporary authors represented here include Julius Lester, Joan Aiken, and Philippa Pearce; a few classic tales from Kipling, Andersen, and Wilde are included as well.
