Luckily, the last sheep received a handy gift and comes to the rescue. This countdown story with repeating phrases and sound effects is action-packed and appealing. The whimsical watercolor cartoons with pen-and-ink crosshatching (often within irregular borders) are charming and the wordless last page is thoroughly satisfying. Six Snowy Sheep is harder to read than Nancy Shaw's "Sheep" books (Houghton), but it's just as much fun.
