From School Library Journal:
Kindergarten-Grade 2 Lighthearted fun and delightful illustrations abound. In each of the five short chapters, the forest animal scouts, ranging from their undaunted leader Tooth to the innocent mouse Eek, attempt to master new skills in order to earn their scouting merit badges. Each time, of course, they meet with some unexpected obstacle; yet, their quick wits and ingenious humor manage to save the day. The stories are clever and well within the comprehension of beginning readers. The watercolor cartoon illustrations add much to the overall comic effect. This is especially evident in the final tale, ``First Aid,'' in which Tooth is wrapped like a mummy after tripping over the bandages that his scouts have attempted to apply. Thaler's humor is simple and right to the point. This title should be popular with those who have enjoyed Bonsall's and Hoban's ``I Can Read'' tales (Harper).
