From the Publisher:
A bittersweet romantic novel that reunites two star-crossed lovers.
Review:
Dane Corvin hasn't seen Helen Raven in twenty years. Their brief relationship was doomed because of Dane's job. Helen's brother was a poacher fishing illegally and Dane was the federal agent for the Fish and Wildlife Service who would put him in jail. Dane didn't tell Helen, or her brother, who he was until he had enough info on the illegal activities and had Helen's brother and the rest of the fishermen arrested. Giving herself to the only man she would ever love, Helen was the raven and Dane was the wolf. According to legend, wolf and raven are destined to spend their lives together in alliance. But the lie shattered the hope of a love that had just been discovered. Dane left for his next job and Helen went on, carrying a secret she would protect at any cost. Now Dane is back to help ease his uncle's final days and to try to put to rest the memories of the past. When he discovers Helen is still living on Raven Island, he feels compelled to go to her, to explain himself. Twenty years is a long time to carry the regret of loss and pain and Dane needs to make Helen understand why he did what he did. He has never married because he has never found a woman who compared to Helen. It may be too late to bring back the feelings that they once had, but Dane knows he must see Helen again. The young girl he left twenty years ago has grown into a beautiful, self-reliant woman. Helen isn't anxious to see Dane again, the anger and pain are still there. A part of him has always been with her and she has never forgotten his wolf-like eyes, always watching and waiting. She can't deny her feelings, but she must in order to protect the secret she has kept from Dane. The years haven't diminished the attraction between Dane and Helen, wolf and raven. They form a delicate new bond of understanding and growing trust, neither forgetting what brought them together. Beneath the surface of their newly forged friendship is the truth, a truth that will bring them closer together or drive them apart forever. Beautifully written! A superb novel of bittersweet love! Raw and natural, powerfully emotional! Evan Maxwell captures the scenic splendor of the Pacific Northwest and the life-affirming moments of the human experience! All the Winters That Have Been reaches into your soul and the emotions it stirs won't go away.Kristina Wright -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times
