From the moment she first saw tall, dashing Eric Ford, Camille's heart was lost. In her most cherished fantasy she is standing by his side, exchanging sacred wedding vows with her beloved. But Eric seems content to be no more than her unofficial protector, watching over the younger sister of his dear friend—and, despite her every attempt to open his eyes, it appears Camille's dream of wedded bliss might never come true.

Eric knows a spirited and passionate beauty like Camille deserves much better than him, an ex-military man who has no patience for the games of the ton. Still, he aches each time a potential suitor approaches her, or when he sees her dancing in another man's arms. Eric knows he will never be complete until Camille is his. With each lingering glance and caressing touch he must tempt the lady to be his bride. But when danger and betrayal threaten, will it destroy a secret love...or bind two hearts for all eternity?

About the Author:

Edith Layton loved to write. She wrote articles and opinion pieces for the New York Times and Newsday, as well as for local papers, and freelanced writing publicity before she began writing novels.

Publisher’s Weekly called her “one of romance’s most gifted authors.” She received many awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Romantic Times, and excellent reviews and commendations from Library Journal, Romance Readers Anonymous, and Romance Writers of America. She also wrote historical novels under the name Edith Felber.

Mother of three grown children, she lived on Long Island with her devoted dog, Miss Daisy; her half feral parakeet, Little Richard; and various nameless pond fish in the fishness protection program.

From Booklist:
Ever since she could remember, Camille has been in love with Eric, but he seems to think of her only as his best friend Miles' younger sister. Camille knows that she's no beauty, and her habit of honestly saying what she thinks rather than adapting the demure ways expected of a regency miss is the despair of Miles' wife, Annabelle, who chaperons Camille through her first Season. Yet Camille still has hopes of one day catching Eric's interest, hopes that appear to be dashed, however, when Eric rescues Nell Baynes, a beautiful young stranger. Hospitality demands that Camille open her home and her circle of friends to Nell, and Camille doesn't expect Eric to ever notice her. Then, just as Eric finally seems interested in Camille, a dangerous villain throws an unexpected detour in their path to romance. Layton's superb characterization, including the wonderfully devious yet very practical Nell, and lovely writing, tempered with a nice dash of wit, will delight readers who enjoy historical regencies by Mary Jo Putney or Mary Balogh.
