Grade 4-6-- When her mother goes away for the weekend, nine-year-old Mallory is stuck with Woody, her new ``nerdy'' stepfather. To escape him, she bicycles to the local drug store, where Mrs. Peebles sells her some homemade candy. When Woody eats a butter cream, he shrinks, becoming small enough to sleep in a dollhouse and wear doll-sized clothes. Mallory discovers that Mr. Peebles, an amateur inventor who has gone out of town, has added a pinch of ``Lose It Now'' powder to the candy; when he is found, he restores Woody to his original size before Mallory's mother gets home. In the meantime, Mallory must lift, carry, and feed her miniature stepparent. In keeping with the typical stepdaughter vs. stepfather theme, Dillon shows how Mallory changes her mind about Woody when she's forced to help him.
