PreSchool-Grade 1 Whether or not most children will need Gibbon's introduction to natural history museums to make their visit worthwhile is questionable. Gibbons introduces the basics of a natural history museum, including the main exhibit, special shows, tours, and the gift shop. She also gives brief descriptions of some of the behind-the-scenes work done by scientists and artists who create museum displays. Her illustrations are bright but nondescript. Mostly, this book is a rehash of information that's obvious or available from other sources. Papajana's Museums (Childrens, 1983) covers similar material, and more, introducing children to museums of all kinds. Aliki's My Visit to the Dinosaurs (Crowell, 1985) covers some of this same information too, with an added focus on dinosaurs.
