From School Library Journal:
Grade 1-2-Beginning with colorful, intriguing endpapers showing everyday items in minute detail, this alphabet book takes readers on a jaunt through a young boy's world. Oliver's friends, family, home, and town are depicted on large, double-page spreads of watercolor and pen-and-ink illustrations. The pictures are full of pleasing minutae, but not to the point of clutter or confusion. Circled lower-case letters label the objects, people, and animals within each picture. A wide, white column on one side of each page lists the alphabet, in both upper and lower case, with the names of the corresponding items printed beside each letter. This is an attractive presentation, but be aware that many of the words, particularly the proper names, such as "Xusen," "Quincy," and "Xerxes," will require adult help. Consider this if your alphabet collection needs something new and different.
